Surprise!

Yesterday was a very important day. Stop the press...my daddy was half a hundred!
On Friday, myself and Debs somehow managed to cram a whole load of tasty, party treats, birthday banners, badges, napkins, candles, confetti, party poppers and a HUGE pair of balloons that said 50 and ten other helium balloons into a Micra. I couldn't see a flippin thing when we were driving back so apologies to anybody who may have been nearly killed by a manic, balloon filled Nissan Micra with two giggling girls in the front.
We stashed all of the party 'treats and treasures' (see what I did there?) down in Grandma's house which led to frantic phone calls when Dad insisted on visiting the relatives down there for two minutes. Fair play to Aunty Carol-Ann for her cunning distraction skills. Dad never noticed half the party shop in the kitchen.

The next plan of action consisted of trying to make up an excuse for getting Dad out of the house so we could get everything ready. This was not easy. When Dad doesn't want to go out...he doesn't want to go out. So eventually we convinced him with some terrible excuse that I was baking a cake and he couldn't see it so he had to stay out until 8pm. It was now 3pm. I have no idea what kind of birthday cake Dad thought I would be making for five hours but off he went anyway.

Everything was going great. The house was decorated. The food was cooked. The cake was baked. We just needed everybody to arrive. People had begun to trickle in when suddenly a text from Dad came saying he was on the way home...he needed a wee...it was only 7 20pm. He was too early! PANICK! We thought up some stupid plan that Debs was making him a surprise present and it wasn't ready so to wait 20 mins. He was good and held it in. The last person arrived about three seconds before he did. Everyone hid in the kitchen and we got him to close his eyes and carry his pretend present into the kitchen. When we said open your eyes, there were about fifty people armed with party poppers and shouted "SURPRISE"! And he was...surprised. And sad. And happy all at the same time. Like the rest of us really. Too strange without Mam.

We had a really nice night. Thanks to everyone who brought food and presents for the best Dad in the world.
Love you loads Dad and I hope you had a great night. And as you say, you don't look a day older than 49.

Oh also my mad uncle Jim from England couldn't get over for the surprise so he made his own little party to have with Dad when he rang him on skype.

Love you Dad. Happy Birthday!
Sorry about all the pictures and essay amount of writing but it's hard to cram 50 years into one post. Stay tuned for the birthday cake recipe.
